Lemongrass oil is a golden-yellow liquid with a sweet, fresh grassy-lemon odour.

BOTANICAL NAME: Cymbopogon flexuosus 

PLANT FAMILY: Gramineae or Poaceae

EXTRACTION METHOD: Steam distillation of the leaves 

VOLATILITY: Middle Note

  • TRADITIONAL USES:

    - originally used as a food flavouring in Asia

    - used as a hair wash and toilet water in India

    - used as a source of cellulose and paper production

    - used for citral production which is used either for perfumery or flavour use and for phamaceutical use in the synthesis of vitamin A

    - used in TCM to treat colds, headache, stomach ache, abdominal pain and rheumatic pain

    THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES:

    Antiseptic - can be used to disinfect the air by using a vaporiser

    Digestive- recommended for colitis, indigestion and gastroenteritis

    Musculoskeletal - recommended in the after-care of sports injuries, sprains bruises and dislocations

    Nervous - aids our logical thinking and promotes good concentration

    Skincare - recommended as a skin tonic and is used in cleansing lotions and creams. It is also very effective as an insect repellent.
